Battle of the North #2 – Race Report
Battle of the North #2 delivered exactly what it’s known for — a tough, honest 5km test through Doordekraal and around the scenic Doordekraal Dam. This is not your average flat course; runners were met with a series of challenging climbs (yes… more than one serious hill!) that demanded grit, pacing, and a strong finish.
Despite unpredictable weather conditions, we saw a fantastic turnout, with runners showing up in great spirits and ready to take on the challenge. The energy on the course and at the finish was electric — a real reflection of the growing excitement around the Battle of the North series.
From seasoned racers chasing times to social runners pushing their limits, the event once again showcased the strength and community spirit of our running clubs. The support on the sidelines and camaraderie on the route made for a memorable evening.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make the event run smoothly — these events simply don’t happen without you.

We’re already looking forward to the next showdown — come ready, bring your teammates, and be prepared to take on the hills again! 💪🏃♂️🏃♀️
Last night, CMC hosted the first Battle of 2025, and what an incredible event it was! This competition continues to grow in strength and popularity. We were fortunate to have perfect weather and a fantastic turnout, with a total of 338 runners participating.
Special Thanks to Our Sponsors
We extend our gratitude to our generous sponsors who made this event possible:
Afrimat, for their financial contributions to sponsor the venue rental and prizes.
Altra shoes, for their impressive array of prizes, including two pairs of running shoes.
Computer Mania, for their commitment to supporting all four Battle events this year.
TJs, our regular braai masters, for their delicious boerewors.
Please show your appreciation for these sponsors by supporting them whenever possible.
Congratulations to Our Winners!
CMC dominated the performance category, securing both the men's and ladies' categories, as well as the King and Queen prizes. Well done, Dada and Nardus, on your outstanding performances!
Interestingly, three of the top five runners were family members - Nardus, Johardt, and Andreas. What a high performance family! Ironically another runner in the top 5 was Neil Broers, an old CMC member.
Participation Category
Unfortunately we had to be content with 3rd place in the participation category, that allowed Bellville to walk away with the overall honours for the evening. Really hope to see more of you next time.
Participation numbers were:
Bellville: 104
Durbac: 82
Brackenfell: 66
CMC: 54 runners + 20 helpers
Final Thanks
Thank you to everyone involved - runners, helpers, and sponsors - for making this event a resounding success. We look forward to seeing you all at the next Battle!
