With a bone-chilling early start, we set off towards Malmesbury from Durbanville before sunrise. The 166km with 1750m elevation gain took around trip to Malmesbury with some extra turns here and there. Groups were set off a few minutes apart to ensure safety and not to over crowd any public roads or crossing.
As we approached Kalbaskraal, the temperature dropped so far that if you really thought about it, you would realize that at that moment, it was warmer inside your fridge at home. 🥶.
However, the rollers towards the 1st water point helped keep the core warm, and as we set off from WP1, we had a nice steady climb met with sunrise. Allowing us to break that 1st sweat for the day.
The route towards Malmesbury via Paardeberg was well planned, and it was when we hit the big climb at the foot of Riebeekkasteel that we started respecting this fun ride. This was no walk in the park.
The remainder of the ride was a mix up of tar and gravel and too many rollers to count. The Waterpoints were well placed and well stocked and manned by some great people offering up their free time to help us make it through our journey. Special shout out to Team Flip crew for arranging this great initiative and making it all possible.
Let' say a big thank-you to the CMC team who supported the CMC Water Point
